文題如“請柬”，因此，要寫好一個內容準確、清楚、文字簡潔且吸引人的英文翻譯題目非易事。從某種意義上說，文章標題是作者給讀者發出的“請柬”。如果文章標題無吸引讀者的資訊，或者寫得不容易理解，就會失去讀者。因此，要寫好一個內容準確、清楚、文字簡潔且吸引人的英文翻譯標題並不是一件容易的事，作者需要有一定的英語文字能力和掌握一定的寫作要領，如果要寫出符合西方讀者的胃口的文題，甚至對西方文化得有研究才行。

論文翻譯的標題要清楚：模糊不清的文題往往會給讀者和做索引的人帶來麻煩和不便。如下面一個題目: The Effects of Vioform on Its Onset,中間的不定代詞所有格“Its”很費解。有些作者在文題中喜歡用非英語詞彙（包括拉丁語）。有些醫學術語是以地名和人名來命名的，但不常用，因此在文題中使用似乎不妥。例如：Cotunnius’disease是指坐骨神經痛（sciatica），有誰知道呢？恐怕很少讀者在閱讀醫學雜誌目錄時反複查詞典的吧！
讀者只求迅速獲得知識，所以文題要寫得具體清楚，如A Complication of Translumbar Aortography,中間complication是什麼呢？改成Aortic Dissection after Translumbar Aortography就明白多了。
論文翻譯的標題簡潔：一個文題能用一行文字表達，最好不要用兩行。超過兩行則會削弱讀者的印象。最好的辦法是用數個字表示文章的中心內容，作主標題，再加一個副標題表明區別。
The Effect of Diet on Stotistical Rish in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease. 可寫成: Coronary Artery Disease: Diet and Statistical Risk.
在標題中，作者應該將主要位置留給關鍵字。
A Double-Blind Trial of Low Doses of Subcutaneous Heparin in the Prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis after Myocardial Infarction:Prevention by Heparin.
標題中常常可以刪去不必要的冠詞（a，an和the）和多餘的說明性短語: studies of;observation on;investigation of; evaluation of ;experimental report of;development of;use of ;treatment of …
作者還要注意文題中詞意上的重疊，如:Taumatic Injuries of the Inferior Vena Cava; Surgical Postoperative Bleeding Associated with Aspirin Ingestion; Sterilization with IUD Contraception.

西方作者傾向於使用一個簡短的句子作為問題，句子多為省略句、簡短的陳述句，也可以用疑問句，顯得活潑而吸引人。國內作者在寫文題時可以嘗試模仿西方作者的這種做法。

濫用縮略語
非常用的縮略語如果不寫出全名常會使讀者不知所措。另外，醫學中同一個略語可以有多種解釋，如Cv,可以解釋為cardiovascular、 costovertebral等。所以，文題要避免縮略語。
